FROSTED MISTLETOE MARGARITA

How to make this year’s “Holiday Cheers” craft cocktail, the “Frosted Mistletoe Margarita Recipe”

Makes 2 drinks

Ingredients

Garnishes

  • Kosher salt (add lime zest for an extra citrus flavor)
  • Sugared cranberries (see recipe below)
  • Sweetened dried orange slices (Trader Joes)
  • Rosemary sprigs
  • Cinnamon sticks (optional)
  • Mystery “ingredient” – Butane torch (use to slightly torch the rosemary sprigs & cinnamon stick, and add a smokey aroma to the drink)

How To Make Sugared Cranberries

Ingredients – 1/2 cup water, bag of fresh cranberries, 2 cups sugar

  1. Combine the sugar and water: In a medium saucepan, combine 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup of the sugar. Bring to a boil over medium heat until sugar is fully dissolved, about 3 minutes.
  2. Allow the cranberries to cool: Stir in the cranberries and make sure each cranberry is well coated in the simple syrup. Using a slotted spoon, transfer cranberries to a wire rack and let them dry for at least an hour.
  3. Finish: After an hour the cranberries should be dry but sticky. Working with a few cranberries at once, roll them in the remaining sugar until they are fully coated. Let them sit until and dry for another hour.
  4. You can put them in the refrigerator until it’s time to use them. You can make these up to a few days in advance.

To make the cocktail

  • Prepare your glass
    • Rim your glass with lime
    • Dip the rim in salt and lime shavings
  • Add ice to your glass
  • Add all the ingredients to a cocktail mixer and shake
  • Pour the drink into your glass and garnish with rosemary, a slice of dried orange, and frosted cranberries

That’s it! Easy peasy.

More about this cocktail

Every holiday, my family looks forward to my craft cocktails. I usually put out a spread of ingredients and garnishes, and print an easy recipe to follow. I make the first round of drinks and invite everyone to make themselves the next drink.

But no matter how easy I make the recipe, I find myself making the drinks for everyone all night. I mean, I can’t blame them…who doesn’t want their hand crafted drink delivered to them? But I’m determined to make this year’s drink super easy because I know they will appreciate it more if they can figure out my secret sauce..literally!
