THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO 2022 WEDDINGS

2022 is the year of the wedding! After TWO whole years of lockdowns, never-ending postponements, canceled weddings, and broken hearts, 2022 finally feels like the first-year post-pandemic that we can actually start to celebrate again; hence our ultimate guide to 2022 weddings! While there are still some restrictions in place, weddings are starting to return to their former glory … but with larger guest lists and bolder designs. It makes sense – couples are ready to celebrate in a BIG way. That means spending more money per guest, adding intentional, personalized details throughout the celebrations, and concentrating their efforts on creating a memorable experience for everyone in attendance.  For this ultimate guide to 2022 weddings, we talked to the wedding experts – coordinators, planners, designers, and vendors, to get the best sense of what’s in store for 2022 weddings (specifically, what to expect and what’s in style!). Where to Start You’ve gotten engaged – congrats! What’s the first thing you should do? “Besides getting a manicure, sharing the news with your friends, and enjoying the engagement bliss – my first recommendation would be to choose a date for the big day!”, says wedding planner  Casarah Gutierrez of Casa Event Productions. Think about the season, weather, and what style that might mean for your wedding day. If you have a vision of an outdoor garden wedding, you’d want to consider warmer seasons. If there’s an indoor wedding venue you’re eyeing, you’d have more flexibility on your date, etc. After taking some time to truly soak in the significance of the engagement and the special milestone this marks in your relationship, next it’s time to get to planning! Here’s what wedding planner Brenda Campos of Weddings and Events by Charms says you’ll want to start with:  It’s important that in the early planning stages of your wedding that you home in on your vision.  “First thing is to ask yourself is what vision do you have for your wedding,” explains wedding coordinator Guadalupe Hernandez of DACAL Events. “Next is, how many guests do you want to have? The number of guests will determine if you should have an outdoor or indoor wedding. Then your budget can work according to your guest count.”  Tina Li of In the Clouds Events advises that before you book a venue or any vendors, consult a wedding planner first. They’ll help put everything in perspective for you in terms of cost, logistics, and tips to make sure you start off on the right path. “Your ‘affordable’ is not the same as mine. Give us a dollar amount that you do not want to go over or a budget range so we, the planners can better help you find a vendor or source wedding products.” Do you want to go super trendy or classic? Over the top, or simple? According to Jaz of Occasions by Jaz, 2022 is the year of minimalism and neutral tones. “Couples are really turning towards simple designs”, says Jaz. Jenny Goodman of At Your Door Events, says her biggest tip for couples hosting a wedding is to think about the guests’ experience moment by moment! “Find unexpected ways to delight your guests from beginning to end! Guests will rarely remember your fancy centerpieces, but they will talk for ages about how you made them feel! Your biggest task as hosts is to make them feel special!” Ultimately, don’t sweat the small stuff! Wedding planner Michelle Barrionuevo-Mazzini of MB Creative Co. says, “understand that nothing will be entirely perfect on your wedding day, but having a professional on hand will ensure you a peace of mind. If you hire a professional to help you with your wedding plans, trust in that individual and their abilities. When you allow any professional to do their job to the best of their ability, you allow their creativity to flourish.”Back to top 2022 Wedding Trends Parties are back, baby – and couples are shifting their focuses from specifically on the bride and groom to the guest experience.  “Couples are really focused on guest experiences and unique reception surprise moments,” says Campos. “Everybody wants their guests to be entertained in some way whether through a michelada bar, live music, to personal welcome or thank you notes, and thoughtful ways to incorporate their pets.  They want guests to feel cared for and thought of. That seems to be a huge trend.”  If you’re working with a smaller budget, that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice on your design elements. In fact, a lot of couples are opting for smaller weddings, so they can go big on design and décor features.  “Some trends [I’m seeing] are smaller guest counts in order to spend more on decor and food,” says event planner Lupe Hernandez. “Giant flower arrangements are on-trend, the ones that don’t go on tables, but instead on the sides to help the venue look more elegant. More vibrant colors are being used in flower arrangements, and vintage couches are a great touch for your cocktail area!” In addition to bolder colors and brighter designs, event planner Casarah Gutierrez says she’s also seeing statement wedding cakes and artistic installation decorations! “Weddings are steering away from the ‘traditional’ and I see my brides getting bolder and leaving more of an impactful, unexpected experience for guests,” Gutierrez says.Back to top 2022 Wedding Trends Breakdown Photo credit: Custom invite suite by LA Design Boutique; Photographer: Tiffany Wu Photo Custom wedding invites Creating your invites is a beautiful way to give guests a sneak peek at your wedding theme and colors. Work with an invites designer like LA Design Boutique or Miss Paper Things to help you create a custom look, and get your guests excited about the upcoming wedding. Jenny Goodman of At Your Door Events encourages couples to also make sure to create a wedding website.  We learned during the pandemic that distributing information quickly is best done digitally. It takes time to put the website together so slowly start crafting and curating the information that you’ll want to share.Back to top Photo credit: Tina Li of In the Clouds events, photo by Allison Maginn Photography Unique first looks Couples are learning… Continue reading THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO 2022 WEDDINGS

MUST HAVE STRATEGY FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON – BUNDLES

“What package do you want”? Huh? I had my eyes closed relaxing as the massage chair pummeled my back. “Which package, for your nails?” asked the nail technician. “Oh, yes…let me look at the pamphlet…definitely one with the sea salt scrub and extra massage… I’ll take the Green Tea package please.” I thought about it for a minute…how easy was it for my nail technician to “bundle” their services together? And what a missed opportunity if they had not made the ask. I went in for a pedicure. If I had just sat down and let them perform the service, they would be out the extra $40 I paid for the bells and whistles. And from my perspective, I would have been disappointed too… I wanted the bells and whistles! The ladies at the nail salon are so good at asking us for the upsell. Them: “Getting a manicure? You should try the bio gel, it’s great.” Me: “Ok sure!” So this got us thinking –  what kind of bundles can you add to your business?  Bundles increase your revenue and improve customer satisfaction. We just need to let them know what the offer is! With the holidays approaching, now is a great time to think about creating bundles and packages for your products and services. If you aren’t sure what to bundle, look for inspiration in what you see every day. Booking a flight? How about adding a car rental. Getting a facial? May as well book a 3 visit pack and save a couple of dollars.  Here are some more best practices for bundles we found in this article from ecommerce experts, Glew.io: Types of Bundles The right kind of bundles involve products that fit well together and make sense to the buyer. Product bundles are typically sold at a discount in order to raise the perceived value of buying multiple products at one time.   Good bundles often add a complimentary high margin item (think the product you sell at a high cost and make the most money on) to a low margin purchase (think the product that’s lower cost that you may or may not make a lot of money on) that will give the buyer greater value and add to your bottom line.  There are two types of packaged bundles:   ‍Mixed Bundle â€“ Products also available as individual units.   ‍Pure Bundle â€“ Products not available for purchase separately.   Research shows that mixed bundles have a higher rate of success. A study by Harvard Business School found when video game units and games were offered as a mixed bundle, sales soared. But when offered as a pure bundle, available only as a package deal, revenue dropped by 20%. Tips for Packaged Bundles 1. The most common types of bundles involve grouping main products with accessories or similar products. Running shoes could be paired with socks and a water bottle. In this example, a camera is bundled with accessories like an SD card, light and a camera case.   2. You can use bundling as an opportunity to get creative in developing new products from overstocked inventory or dated items. For example, you could take a golf shirt that’s not selling well on its own and pair it with with golf tees, a visor and water tumbler to make a Father’s Day gift basket.   3, Consider throwing a freebie into your bundle to encourage the purchase of a higher priced item. For example, add a free pound of a coffee with the purchase of an espresso machine. Related Products Recommending products related to a buyer’s initial purchase is another bundling strategy that can increase conversions and bottom-line results.  According to , product recommendations can: Increase revenue up to 300% Increase conversions by up to 150% Increase average order value by as much as 50% Bundle ideas for Festively vendors Sometimes it’s hard to come up with bundle ideas, so we brainstormed a few ideas for some of you fabulous business owners. 8 STRATEGIC BUSINESS TIPS FOR SMALL BUSINESSES

We are huge fans of podcasts. We live in a time where we can get a quality education while driving, at the gym, or out shopping. One person who provides so much wisdom each week is Natalie Eckdahl of the Biz Chix podcast. She recently shared eight of her best strategic tips for small businesses, here’s a summary: #1 Business is a marathon, not a sprint We can stay connected so much faster than ever before, there’s a lot coming at us at a very fast pace. It can make us feel anxious. We don’t have to fast track our businesses. Imagine creating a 5-year, 10-year plan, or even a 25-year plan. Where will it be and what do you want it to look like? Think more long term, because building a business is a marathon, not a sprint. It must be sustainable, and we don’t want you to burn out. What we’re trying: Taking every other weekend for family time. In our industry, this is especially hard, and doesn’t mean we don’t sneak some work in. But we prioritize family time those weekends so we can fill up on love and feel good about the long hours we pour into the business. This can mean watching a movie together, going to breakfast together, doing a fun activity together, etc. #2 Know your profit goal This is the amount of money you’re going to take from your business account and move to your personal account. If you don’t have two separate accounts for business expenses and personal salary, do this first. If you don’t know how to do this, go to a bank and they’ll tell you what you need to bring (our tip: check out a credit union, they offer free accounts, great rates with very good terms). Think about how much income you want to earn and the business to profit. We look at what your expenses are, add those up and that’s what our revenue goal is. Think about how much you’d need to impact your personal life in a positive way.  Take the time and review these numbers monthly. If you need to make $5,000 to take home monthly, set a revenue goal to earn that amount. It may be that you need to ramp up to that number, so, you may want to create a monthly ‘good, better, and best’ goal (i.e. $2,000, $3,500, and $5,000) What we’re trying: We started with an annual revenue goal, then worked backward to determine what our monthly sales goals are. This also helps understand if we are spending too much on business expenses as well. #3 Do more of what’s working It sounds so simple! But it’s important to reflect back on the outreach, talks, networking events, etc that you’ve done, and think about how they generated leads. Or think about your dream clients. Where are they coming from? Referrals from specific people? Look at your numbers. Understand where your clients are coming from and try to do more of what brings in the most leads. What we’re trying: Monthly leadership day to review our numbers. We have a dashboard that shows how many followers we have on social, how many email addresses, how many new leads. This helps us reflect back on the month and determine what to do more or less of in the following month. #4 Trading your time for money is lucrative & profitable Natalie recommends focusing on growing your current business and working with lots of people. If you are known for a product or service you provide, work as hard as you can to be the best in that space, and focusing on one thing can make it easier for people to recommend you to new clients. When you add new offerings, sometimes it can slow down the momentum you’ve built from the original offering. What we’re trying: Focusing on completing our site and making it better and better. We have a million ideas to do a lot of add ons, but our core business is creating Festively.com, the go-to marketplace to find and book party essentials, and we will work to make it the best among any competitors. #5 Embrace experimentation You may have a great idea for a new product or service. Before you go full force with the new idea, offer it to a few clients first. Get feedback and a testimonial before you launch it to a broader group. Circle back to your goals and make sure it’s adding to your profit goal. Talk to someone to find out the actual amount of time and money it will take to implement it. Is it worth it? Or will it be a distraction. Give your idea a try, start small, do an experiment. What we’re going to try: Our One Festively community! We’ve been debating about starting one because we want to make sure we can dedicate the time to do it right, and not pull us away from the maintenance and ongoing work needed on Festivley.com. But we’re working on it and can only get better with time. #6 Look for best practices outside of your industry Observe how others sell to you. Sign up for email lists just to see their headlines, images, and copy. Follow people on social media that are outside of your industry so you can get different ideas. If not you will look and sound the same as everyone else. Listen to different music. Tour a factory. Shop different stores. Watch different shows. You just never know where you will get inspiration from. What we’re trying: Reading articles about mindfulness and listening to new podcasts about psychology. We are loving “Hidden Brain.” #7 Don’t take advice from people who don’t understand your ideal client People often ask for advice from Facebook groups or friends or family. The best person to give you advice is your ideal client. Dig deep to learn what motivates them, and understand how they think. What we’re going to try: A survey! We’re sending out a… Continue reading 8 STRATEGIC BUSINESS TIPS FOR SMALL BUSINESSES

ALYSSA’S PRETTY IN PINK (AND WHITE) BRIDAL SHOWER

There’s something about a bridal shower that makes an upcoming wedding feel so…official! Amidst all the stress and challenges of planning a wedding, a bridal shower gives the bride-to-be and her family and friends a moment to pause, take a breather, have some fun and get excited about the big day! Alyssa’s bridal shower was just the excitement everyone needed. Family and friends gathered with so much anticipation to talk all about the big day. Everyone couldn’t wait to shower her with love, and share how thrilled they are for her to be stepping into this next phase of her life. As Alyssa’s step-mom, I was so honored to be part of this beautiful day. I chatted with Alyssa’s mom to find out more about all the planning that went into the event. Alyssa’s mom, Nickie, and best friend, Natalie, came together to plan this fabulous bridal shower. They wanted to go “chic soiree” meets “girls night out”. The bride did have some input on the theme…she wanted everyone to wear a shade of pink, wanted to keep it classy but not stuffy, and wanted to add some touches of romance. No boho for this bride! She gave the planning team some ideas and they took it from there. As a 2022 bride-to-be, Alyssa definitely knows what she wants. She’s a classy young lady who’s stylish and trendy. She is gracefully stepping into her role as soon-to-be wife and family decision maker. We all agree she’s has become such inspiring young woman a wonderful role model for her family! Party Details Guest attire Decor Games Show some love to your party crew. Who helped you plan?  How did your party go? What did your guests rave about most? I heard nothing but good things from everyone who attended. Everyone said the party was so beautiful. It looked like everyone was having a great time. The night was perfect. So many people at the party have known Alyssa since she was born, and are so excited to see her take the next step. My friends were tearing up, the party made everything so real.  One game that I think everyone loved was the “Drop the panties party game.” Everyone got so into it. We did the game close to when we opened the presents toward the end of the night, so by that time, everyone was ready to let loose and have some fun. What vendors did you work with? Would you recommend them to others? The vendors were all really great and helped make the party extra special. Dessert table Decor Bar Any last tips for someone hosting a party like this? Planning a bridal shower is a lot of work! But it’s for my daughter, so of course I’d it over again in a heartbeat. One tip I have: Soak it all in. I really took the time to enjoy the moment. I went to post pictures the next day and realized I didn’t take any! I spent the whole night spending time with everyone, trying to talk to as many people as I could, and truly enjoyed the moment. I recommend any mom of the bride do the same, soak it all in, because the time just flies by!
