HOST A STRESS-FREE BRUNCH

I’ll start by saying that I’m not the best cook. So when I plan a brunch, I’m looking for things I can buy vs make. 😌 Our first choice of course is to hire a caterer! This means less stress and more time enjoying the day with friends. Next best is to plan with as little stress as possible.🚫🍳 Tips for setting up a no-stress brunch 1. Plan your menu I researched all the best items that just needs to be served or warmed up in the oven – including the best frozen waffles – so I could minimize cooking. Here’s are just a few things on the menu that were a hit: Trader Joes’ Mac and Cheese Balls, Tomato & Red Onion Focaccia, frozen lemon bars; from the market: fried chicken & Julian’s recipe frozen waffles; Fresh from the bakery: quiches, croissants, beignets, & brioche bread (I did actually make French toast see recipe below!) Click here to download this shopping list of all the items I purchased for this fabulous brunch! 2. Set up your space I wanted to set up outside but it was a little chilly so I opted to put a table inside. This did limit what I was able to set out, so I had to plan out the space a bit. Setting out the serving dishes helped me visualize what goes where, and narrow down what I can actually serve. 3. Take a few minutes to prep Here are a few things to do that will make your life easier while you host! 4. Put it all together Our completely store bought brunch was a hit! The biggest tip we have – whether you are making the food yourself, buying store made, or hiring a caterer – is to give yourself enough time! This brunch turned out fabulous! But thankfully my friends don’t show up on time. I said to come by at 1, and the last ones didn’t show up until 2:30…thank goodness because I wasn’t done prepping until 2:45 pm! I’d recommend working backward from when you want to be done. Using our shopping list, I’d recommend adding the cooking temperature and time needed to warm up each item. This way, you can bundle items that have the same cooking time and temperature. Having the platters and warmers set out in advance also comes in handy here so as soon as the oven is finished warming one item, you can place it in the right spot on the buffet table. Make sure you take everything out of the containers (that means dips, salads, salami, juices, etc.) and place them nicely in bowls, platters, and caraffes. Make sure you also have enough tongs and serving spoons ready for each dish. Maybe one day I’ll be on time for my own parties! In the end, we had a great time enjoying the food and company. That’s what it’s all about right? Creme Brulee Brioche French Toast Recipe I did make one item, and it was so delicious. It’s also super easy to make. Try making this creme brulee French toast with Brioche bread and let me know what you think! Ingredients: Toppings: Instructions:

HOW TO CREATE A MAGICAL BACKYARD MOVIE NIGHT

Movie night set up is all about being comfortable and having fun If there’s one thing that brings our family closer, it’s watching a great movie together. We love the ritual of picking a movie, gathering all the snacks, finding a comfy spot with a warm blanket, and enjoying the show. Over the last year, we’ve watched a lot of movies. But nothing compares to watching a movie outdoors under the stars! During quarantine, its been so hard for the kids (heck, all of us!) to be apart from family and friends. So we’ve included a few fun ways to incorporate social distancing to still have a movie night with friends. Pick a movie When picking which movie to watch, it’s fun to give everyone a vote. Pick a general genre so everyone knows what kind of movie you want to watch (i.e. scary movie, a comedy, a fantasy movie, an 80’s movie, a Disney movie, a classic movie, etc.) Then have everyone think of a favorite movie in that genre, and write it down on a piece of paper. Fold the papers and put them into a bowl, and select one at random. If you get some disappointed faces, you may want to show a double feature and select another movie to show next. Let everyone vote to pick a movie Snacks Every movie night needs snacks. A fun way to prepare is to ask everyone for their favorite sweet and savory snacks. Then head to CVS and get some of everyone’s favorites. This makes the experience feel extra personal. If you have a larger crowd, you can’t go wrong with all the fixings you see at the movies: Everyone loves picking their own treats for movie night Popcorn with flavored salt toppings. You can make your own popcorn in the microwave, buy packaged popcorn, or rent a popcorn machine from a local rental company. Nachos(cheese in the crockpot is the easiest way to keep them warm) Hot dogs (put out all the fixings like onions, relish, catsup, and mustard) Candy, like red vines, sour patch kids, M&Ms, Reese’s Pieces, and more Buy or make individual charcuterie boxes with healthy snacks like fruit, cheeses, nuts, salami, and crackers. Mini boxes from Wine & Cheese please LA are great for movie night. Soda, water, Lacroix, and a few other drink options are great. If you’ll have adults in attendance, some wine in a can, beer, or other individually packaged drinks is a fun add-in. Ice cream bonbons (stick these in the freezer and bring them out toward the end of the movie) If it’s a special occasion like a birthday, make sure you have a wonderful cake or cupcakes, like you can find on Festively Fabulous birthday cake by Dr Shica’s bakery found on Festively Treat your guests to mini charcuterie boxes to go from Wine & Cheese Please LA Get Comfy Ask everyone to come wearing their most comfy attire. Encourage pajamas, fuzzy slippers, teddy bears, and special blankets to make sure everyone feels super cozy and relaxed. Layout Think about the space you have and how much room you have to spread out. You want the seating to be comfortable and fun, and make sure everyone has a warm blanket and a pillow. Here are a few layout options: Bring your couch outside and get cozy together. Put blankets on the floor and add lots of pillows so everyone can lay down and get comfy. Just make sure you put down some type of waterproof barrier since the grass can get wet. Set up inflatable mattresses outdoors Put out individual lawn chairs or spread out your patio furniture so everyone has their own place to get comfy. If you have twinkle lights, add some of those around your space to give it a magical feeling. Quarantine friendly idea – Create 6’ squares on the ground with either Christmas lights, small cones, or low caution tape so friends can be together but keep their distance. If this is a special birthday, you can buy balloons commemorating the big occasion. Go big and have a balloon stylist come over like Majestic Party rentals to create a beautiful install for the guest of honor. This will make the evening extra special. 15th birthday balloon bouquet by Majestic Party Rentals Movie Screen Depending on what supplies you have and if you want to spend a little money, there are a few ways you can go here: simple DIY, mega DIY, and pro. Here’s a breakdown of how to do each. Simple DIY â€“ You can have a great movie night outside simply by using items you already have. Most likely you have a TV that has a stand. You can put out a low table, put your TV on a stand, plug it in, and use that as your movie screen. Mega DIY â€“ you can buy or rent a projector and screen so that you can watch the movie with a much bigger view. You can rent these items from a local rental company. You can also project a movie onto the garage door or the side of the house. Go Pro â€“ you can hire a company to bring in the projector, screen, seating, and all the fixings! One company that does this is Wondertent parties. Their team will do all the setup and make sure you have a great overall experience. Get this awesome set up from Wondertent parties Extras Gather these things to complete the experience: If your TV isn’t loud enough, you may want to consider adding extra speakers to boost the sound. Extra extension cords to plug in your TV, projector, and any other devices An HDMI cable – you may need this to connect a computer to a TV if your TV doesn’t have the apps for the movie you want to see. A networking cable – if your internet isn’t as good outside, you’ll have a much better experience if you connect a networking cable to your TV for a smooth stream. A flashlight –… Continue reading HOW TO CREATE A MAGICAL BACKYARD MOVIE NIGHT

‘PARTY’ OF THE YEAR: PLAN A FUN 2021 NEW YEAR’S EVE AT HOME

New Year’s Eve 2021 just may be the most anticipated event of the year. That’s because we are all so ready to put 2020 behind us! Can we start popping the champagne now? Of course, in years past staying in and watching the ball drop from home was the international symbol for “I have kids” or “I have no plans”. But in a year of quarantine, we’ve learned to embrace being home and found lots of ways to make it extra fun! Set the scene Scope out your drawers, party boxes, etc., and find fun elements that remind you of New Year’s Eve celebrations. Look for disco balls, horns, feather boas, streamers, and balloons. Make a New Year’s Eve 2021 banner with some fun supplies at home, buy one from party city, or get a fun 2021 balloon pack from Joker’s party supply or Winner party supply. Another fun idea is to make a DIY balloon drop! Check out this video for easy instructions: Prep the food Since it will be a long night, it’s a great time for grazing! Gather your favorite snacks and make a fun New Year’s eve charcuterie platter. Or order one that’s 2021 ready, like this one from Korver farms in La Habra. For the main course, opt for something like this fabulous sushi platter from Sass Papa Sushi. Or make a fabulous taco or nachos bar that encourages slow eating and going back for seconds. There are lots of great desserts to try. One fun one is a “Bye 2020” chocolate breakable heart, like this one from Dipped by Vee. Make a great drink Champagne is a must for New Year’s Eve. Of course, we recommend Honey Bubbles for some delicious bubbly. But to add a little something special for the big night here’s a delicious way to up your champagne game. We can’t wait to enjoy a glass of this on New Year’s Eve. Holiday Mimosa Add the liqueur and cranberry juice to the glass, then top with champagne and garnishes. Or you can skip the liqueur and top with sparkling cider instead of champagne for a fun drink the kids can enjoy too. Plan the entertainment In the year of constant ‘live streams’, you better believe New Year’s Eve 2021 will have lots of great online entertainment options! Some are free, some have a fee, but all will provide fabulous entertainment options. If you’ve been enjoying the fabulous live streaming, here are a few who will be spinning on NYE: Check out these options shared by Timeout.com: Get dressed up…or not You can get dressed up (because why the hell not!) or bring out your best footsie pajamas. If it’s one thing we love about 2020, it’s the lack of constricting undergarments and high heels. You can choose to put on your fanciest loungewear, get dolled up, or opt for PJ’s…it’s up to you! The most important thing is that we get to say farewell to one crazy year, enjoy an evening where we count our blessings, and wish for a happy and safer 2021!

ALL YOU NEED FOR A LUNAR NEW YEAR CELEBRATION

Chinese Lunar New Year 2022 is on February 1 this year. We teamed up with two amazing event planners Tina with @inthecloudsevents and Sarah of @myweddingsongbird for a styled shoot to lay out what’s needed for a Chinese New Year celebration at home, including food, treats, and lots of fun.  When to celebrate Chinese New Year Did you know Lunar New Year is celebrated by one in four people around the world? Amazing right! Chinese New Year is traditionally celebrated for 15 days and culminates with the Lantern Festival. Chinese New Year marks the transition between zodiac signs and 2022 is the year of the Tiger.  Do you know which zodiac sign you are? And what do the stars predict for you this year? Check out a fun astrological reading here: What to eat for Chinese New Year The celebration includes a traditional Chinese feast of food, time with family, and to honor relatives who have passed. Traditional foods include dumplings, longevity noodles, whole fish, snacks and treats too. Our Chinese New Year menu included peking duck, duck bone soup, whole steamed fish, braised pork belly, sautéed pea shoots with garlic, ziao long bao and steamed shrimps with diced garlic. Sounds delish right!! During Chinese New Year people also start cleaning their houses. Cleaning is called “sweeping away the dust” as a sign to put away old things, the old year and welcome the new year. (We all could practice this.) How to decorate for Chinese New Year Event planners Tina and Sarah worked their event planning magic at the @whimsypdna. The location was a clean slate and they transformed the venue into a beautiful cultural Chines New Year celebration.  When it comes to decorations for Chinese New Year, be sure you have plenty of red and gold. It is great to add scrolls and lanterns in these colors as well. In Chinese culture, red symbolizes fire, good fortune, joy, and happiness. Gold symbolizes wealth and prosperity. The two colors together bring good fortune and prosperity in the new year.  We wish for all of you great fortune and prosperity in 2021. Be sure to check out and follow all our partners from the styled shoot below.  Other fun elements Red envelops for offering to ancestors plus games and for kids adds an element of fun and excitement to the holiday. I absolutely loved being a part of this styled shoot hosted by So Festively. You can find everything you need in this one spot to make a memorable celebration. Here is a list of all the vendors we worked with.  Thus blog was written by Tina Li of In the Clouds Events. Be sure to check out her blog.  https://inthecloudsevents.com/blog/
