Last year, Festively and our network of talented event vendors was asked by Rent.com to share creative tips for throwing an Oscars viewing party at home. Check out the full feature below.
Permission to binge-watch! Have you watched all the Oscar-nominated movies yet?
This is a special Oscars award season, and not just because Lily Gladstone could make history for Native Americans.
This is a brag moment, my hubby is part of an Oscar nominated team! Swoon!
He was the dailies colorist for Killers of the Flower Moon, and he did a great job if I do say so myself! And double swoon, one of his work besties is also on the Oscar nominated team for Maestro! This calls for a celebration!
We are sharing ideas from food to drinks to decor and feature some wonderful Festively vendors. Here are our tips to make your Oscars Viewing party extra festive!
Oscars Prep
If you’ll be hosting an Oscars party gathering, first you’ll want to decide how many people you’d like to invite. This will set the tone for whether you’ll make appetizers, order in a big meal, or go potluck style.
We’re planning to keep it to just about 10 people. And of course, this means you need to create an invite. In my case, I’m going less classy and more silly with this custom Oscar invite featuring our own Oscar nominees.
I used Canva to make this fun invite.
We are asking guests to “dress fancy”. What a great time to bring out the costume jewelry and feather boas!
Oscars Decor
Champagne is the drink of the evening, so why not make it part of your decor! Incorporate lots of gold throughout the space, including a gold-toned floral arrangement, like this gorgeous one from Dakota Flowers.
Dress up your normally plain walls with black and gold fringe curtains, cut to size for a festive and glitzy look.
Add movie themed props, and order movie themed plates.
Oscars Drinks
It’s always fun to serve some cocktails that are a play on the Oscar nominated movies. A few fun ones we saw were:
- For Oppenheimer – “The Manhattan Project” Oppie’s signature martini with lime and honey
- For The Hold Overs – a 6-pack of Miller, the champagne of beers
- For Killers of the Flower Moon – a “Sweet Poison” cocktail, garnished with a flower of course
- For Poor Things – a wine & champagne station with a “Pour Things” sign
Oscars Food and Treats
Custom cookies are a must-have, like these gorgeous ones from @cali_cookie_co.
We love to serve lots of grazing options like a fabulous charcuterie board from @korverfarms and traditional movie snacks like popcorn, licorice, and chocolate.
The best Oscars after-parties are catered by Wolfgang puck. Order a pizza from Wolfgang’s protege’s restaurant California Pizza Kitchen for the next best thing!
Oscar Night Activities
You can always count on Vanity Fair to give us a free printable Oscar Ballot. Print out one for each guest and make sure you have plenty of pens!
Invite people over early so they can start filling out their ballot, comment on all the gowns on the red carpet, and get their drink on.
To keep the fun going (and since not everyone has seen every movie), you might also want to print out an Oscars party bingo game from Etsy.
Have a few prizes ready for the winners.
Another fun game is “Take a drink when”. You can decide on a few moments where everyone has to take a drink, such as:
-
Take a sip if the music starts playing during someone’s speech.
-
Take a sip if the music starts playing during someone’s speech.
-
Take a drink whenever someone takes out their glasses to read their speech
-
Take a drink every time they show the Hollywood sign
Overall, have a great time! And congrats to all the Academy Award winners and their loyal fans.
